From idea to reality: How we developed the HAUTOO bike trailer for SUP and kayak"

Three years ago, we began developing our Model ONE. Our goal was to create a bike trailer that excels in flexibility. Today, I'd like to tell you how we further developed this trailer to transport SUPs and kayaks.

The beginnings: Focus on flexibility

The most striking feature of our Model ONE is certainly the foldable forehead bars, which allow the trailer to be extended. Somewhat less conspicuous, but just as important, are the four side bars, which originally served to hold the bag. But we soon realized they offered even more potential.

The idea: SUP and kayak transport

About six months ago, we asked ourselves how we could expand the functionality of our trailer. The answer was obvious: We wanted to be able to transport larger items like SUPs or kayaks.

The drawbar extension

Our first step was extending the drawbar. We needed more space between the trailer and the bike to transport larger items. The first test drive with the empty trailer was promising, even though the combination looked unfamiliar at first.

Kayak transport

Since we didn't own a kayak ourselves, we contacted the company Prijon in Rosenheim, who kindly provided us with one. To transport the kayak, we widened the loading area and used the side bars to attach an aluminum profile. A strap protected the kayak from damage. After some adjustments and test drives, we had a reliable solution for kayak transport.

The SUP adventure

The solution for kayak transport seemed to be suitable for SUPs as well. But after some tests on Lake Simssee, it became clear: SUPs are wider and need to be transported sideways. With extended poles and expandable rubber bands, we finally found a simple but effective solution.

Conclusion: A trailer for all occasions

It's always amazing how easily you can transport even large loads by bike. With our HAUTOO bike trailer, you can now comfortably ride your SUP or kayak to the lake and avoid the hassle of walking from the parking lot.

For me, it is always a highlight to show interested bathers how easy and practical transport is with our trailer.
